Glory Hole Recreation Area: 18 miles of bike trails ranging from 1,200 feet to 1,800 feet that offer a full range of ability levels. There are continuous loops, a variety of wildflowers and a wide range of wildlife to enjoy. Bordered by picturesque New Melones Lake with 100 miles of shoreline.Trails take riders through oak filled terrain, picnic areas and high above the lake. The Frontier Trail, a four mile intermediate course, winds along Angels Creek to a swim area on the lakeshore.
New Hogan Reservoir: Enjoy 50 miles of shoreline while biking these trails. Three trails from beginner to advanced ranging from 715 to 775 feet. Because of this lower elevation biking in the cooler seasons makes for an enjoyable ride.
Calaveras Big Trees State Park: Miles of paved roads and fire roads to explore. Biking is allowed on all roads except any single tread trails. 4 - 5,000 foot elevation, you will enjoy acres of pine forest, natural streams, seasonal dogwoods, two magnificent groves of Sequoia, and an abundance of pristine beauty to last a lifetime. Bear Valley to Lake Alpine: 6 miles round trip from the alpine meadow of Bear Valley to the outskirts of Lake Alpine. An easy ride at the 7,200 foot elevation.

Parks and Public Lands

Calaveras Big Trees State Park: Park Office 209-795-2334 or Visitor's Center 209-795-3840 Over 6,000 acres of magnificent beauty including the North and South Groves of the most majestic Giant Sequoias to behold. These Giant Sequoias range in size to 325 feet in height, 24 feet in diameter and are believed to be up to 2,000 years old. There are also miles and miles of the Stanislaus River for your enjoyment. The park is open year round for many different recreational activities. Enjoy camping, miles of hiking and biking trails, picnic areas, fishing, winter sports, swimming, a visitors center and interpretive programs in the summer. Approximately four miles above Arnold on Hwy 4.
White Pines Community Park and Lake: The park includes a beautiful public lake, picnic tables, barbecues, a group area, beach, softball field and children's park. Located in Arnold, take Blagen Road to the White Pines Park sign and turn left.
New Spicer Meadow Reservoir: 209-795-1381 Approximately 2,000 acres of serene beauty. You will enjoy the Dardanelles Mountain Range to the south while camping, fishing, having a picnic or BBQ. Boating is restricted to 10 mph. Located at an elevation of 6,614 feet off Hwy 4 in the Stanislaus National Forest.
Stanislaus National Forest: 209-795-1381 The Calaveras Ranger District of the Stanislaus National Forest includes approximately 250,000 acres of public land in Calaveras, Tuolumne and Alpine counties. The elevation ranges from 1500 feet at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada to an elevation of 10,000 feet at the Sierra crest. There are an abundant of various recreational activities. Over 200 miles of maintained trails to hike or horseback ride, hundreds of miles of trails and backroads to mountain bike, 14 developed campgrounds, 4 developed picnic areas, backpack into the Carson-Iceberg and Mokelumne Wildernesses, 225 miles of streams to fish or fish from 19 lakes, whitewater rafting or kayaking on the North Fork Stanislaus River, over 70 miles of rugged 4-wheel drive roads and trails, swim, rock climb, downhill or cross-country ski, snowmobile on 36 miles of groomed trails or ungroomed backcountry roads and a beautiful area to explore on snowshoes.
